Amosun Rescue Accident Victims on Akure-Ondo Road

Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, on Friday, stopped to personally coordinate the rescue of three accident victims along the ever busy, Akure-Ondo Road in Ondo State.

Governor Amosun who came across the accident scene while returning from the swearing in ceremony of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu in Akure, stopped his convoy and personally led efforts to retrieve the accident victims from the bush.

The accident involved a Volkswagen car with registration number, Ondo BDR-223XA, painted in the taxi colour of Ondo State and a MAN Diesel truck, which apparently ran the taxi off the road.

The three female victims of the accident appeared to have sustained injuries on the head and this prompted the Ogun State governor to direct his security team to immediately take them to the General Hospital in Ondo town.

Although the accident victims were rejected at the public health facility because the workers were said to be on strike, Governor Amosun then directed that they should be taken to a private hospital in Ondo town where they were admitted and treated.

This is the most interesting part of this interview for me.

"Well, have you picked the person that will succeed you because we heard that you said you knew those who cannot succeed you?

Yes I said that. Though I am no God, but a mere mortal. However, you know God will not come down. I know I am part of the people God will use to pick the person that will be my successor by the time I talk to our paramount rulers and eminent citizens. Though they are apolitical, but they’re influential. I will move from there to market leaders and women, then go to the baales and associations, and present our likely candidates. They will all join me in choosing the right person for the job."

Amosun Assures Protesting TASUED Students of Govt Intervention to Address Challenges

Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun yesterday assured protesting students of the Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, that his government would interface with management of the institution towards resolving what they described as unacceptable policies of the school authority.

Addressing the students at the M.K.O Abiola International Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta, Amosun said even though most of the issues raised by the students are administrative, the government would intervene and seek lasting solution to them.

The governor, who had joined the students on the street and walked with them to the stadium, revealed that education in the state's public primary and secondary schools is free but however added that "education in our tertiary institutions cannot be free, even though, we can subsidise it."

He said there was no basis for comparison of the Pa Obafemi Awolowo era of free education with that of the present government, because "the population then cannot be compared with what we have now."

On the alleged non payment of subvention to the school, Amosun stated that, even though the subvention had been reduced, due to the dwindling resources of the state, it has always been paid regularly.

Earlier, the Students Union President, Sunny Raman Adeyemi spoke on the challenges of the students, which included increment in acceptance, registration and vocational training fees.

Students, who spoke to the media said they were satisfied with the assurances of the governor, who according to them addressed them as a father.

OGUN HOSTS YOUTH CONVENTION

The Ogun State Government has concluded plans to host a Youth Convention between 7th and 8th February, 2017. The Convention, scheduled to hold at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta is being organized by the State Government in collaboration with the organized private sector, civil society and international agencies.

With the theme, “Ogun Youths: Exploring New Frontiers”, the Convention is a direct response of the Governor Ibikunle Amosun-led administration to the challenge of youth unemployment and under-employment.

Participants were drawn from the 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) of the State.

The Convention, which comes at no cost to the participants promises to open Ogun State youths to life-changing trainings and mentorship from the likes of the Founder, SOKOA Chair Centre and Chairman, First Bank PLC, Mrs. Ibukun Awosika; Founder, FATE Foundation, Mr. Fola Adeola and Acting Managing Director, Bank of Industry, Mr. Waheed Olagunju among others.

Arch. Adegbite enjoined the beneficiaries to make good use of the flats, adding that the gesture was a testimony to the fact that people’s welfare remained the topmost priority of government.

Responding on behalf of other beneficiaries, Mr. Kayode Adesina, thanked the Governor for fulfilling his promise, adding that critic of the Government should have a rethink considering the outstanding achievements of the present administration.

He promised that the beneficiaries would make the best use of the flats allocated to them.

2017: Ogun To Witness Massive Rural Roads Construction – Amosun

Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has assured that 2017 will witness massive rural road construction in the state.

A statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Adejuwon Soyinka, quoted the governor to have stated this as part of his 2017 New Year message.

“The year 2017 will witness huge rural road construction,” the governor said.

He added that, “We will take advantage of the opportunities provided by the World Bank through the Rural Access and Mobility Project (RAMP) to ensure easy access to farm produce and mobility of rural dwellers to modern facilities such as pipe borne water, electricity and qualitative health care delivery.”

The Ogun State governor explained that one of the goals of his administration, in the New Year, is to make further progress in its Reforestation project.

“We already have two sites at Aworo and Imeko. Apart from the fact that the projects will go a long way in improving the quality of our environment, it will also boost our forestry development plan and promote investment in the Timber industry,” he said.

In the New Year, the Ogun State government is also looking more seriously at agriculture and Agri-business.

“Agriculture will not only ensure food security, but provide huge employment opportunities for our teeming youth. We are exploring an Agro-Politan development strategy, which emphasises the localisation of the entire value chain that Agriculture provides: Grow-Process-Store–Package–Market-Sell.

“This will ensure that millions of our citizens will be engaged in the Agricultural value chain and will be able to prosper wherever they are,” Governor Amosun said.

In another but related dimension, the governor also promised to commence work on the first phase of the state light rail project within the first quarter of 2017.

The first phase of the proposed Ogun Light Rail Network is approximately 102.3km and consists of two lines: Abeokuta (Panseke) – Sagamu Interchange – Sagamu Town (49.8 km) and Ogere Town – Sagamu Interchange – Berger (52.5km).

Governor Amosun is however not stopping at that. He added, “let me assure our people that preparations have reached an advanced stage for the construction of our International Airport.

This Airport will ease the movement of people, goods and services in and out of Ogun State.”

The governor also seized the occasion to reassure the good people of Ogun State that his administration will leave no project uncompleted.

“Let me again re-assure you that the commencement of new projects will not in any way affect the completion of on-going projects spread across the three Senatorial districts,” he said.

NEW YEAR BROADCAST DELIVERED BY THE GOVERNOR OF OGUN STATE, HIS EXCELLENCY, SENATOR IBIKUNLE AMOSUN CON FCA,
ON SUNDAY, 1ST JANUARY, 2017.

My dear good people of Ogun State, on behalf of your Government, and with a heart full of joy, I thank God and congratulate all of us for witnessing yet another New Year. Our joy knows no bounds bearing in mind that through the grace of the Almighty God, as a people and Government, we have successfully navigated the stormy waters of 2016 and have sailed into 2017. As we have now been ushered into Year 2017, it is my sincere prayer that this New Year will usher in better tidings to all of us, as well as bring greater development to our dear State.
2. Without doubt, 2016 was a challenging year in the history of our dear country. It was a year that tasked our individual and collective resolve as a country and as a State, but the Nigerian Spirit and most especially the Ogun Standard in us has helped us survive it all. Here in Ogun State, we have every cause to thank the Almighty God for helping us to surmount our challenges and come out stronger. As the saying goes, “tough times never last, tough people do”.
3. The past year also witnessed the celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the creation of our dear State. The event, which was graced by the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhamadu Buhari GCFR; the Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo GCON; other top Government officials and eminent Nigerians, afforded us the opportunity to appraise the development of the State in the last forty years and chart a course for further development.
4. It is pertinent for us as a State to look back at Year 2016 with a deep appreciation of the challenges we went through and have a better understanding of what needs to be done in the New Year to cushion the impact of the economic downturn on our people. It is important that we understand that the beginning of a New Year is an opportunity for us to reflect and do some soul-searching: look at where we are coming from; what we have achieved and the goals we hope to further achieve; individually and collectively. It is equally important that we make a collective resolution and set targets for the development of our dear State.
5. I dare say that in Ogun State, we have fared better in all socio-economic and development indices, compared to what was and is still obtainable elsewhere in the country. Without mincing words, our attitude in this New Year should be such that makes us to see the glass as being “half full rather than half empty”. The synergy that exists between the government and the good people of Ogun State has placed the State in such an enviable position among the comity of States in Nigeria. As we usher in the new year 2017, our Administration will further request for more cooperation and the understanding of our people.
6. As an Administration, we have not and we will not shirk our responsibility of providing quality leadership to the good people of Ogun State. We will continue to limit the impact of the national economic challenges on our people. The contracting economy, occasioned by the dwindling federal allocations and reduced IGR have neither dampened the enthusiasm of our Administration in the provision of essential services to our people nor hampered the various development projects in all the senatorial districts of our dear State. It is our pledge that we will not rest on our oars; rather, we will continue to seek better ways of bringing the dividends of democracy to the good People of Ogun State and all those who have made Ogun State their home. I want to assure you that the best is yet to come!
7. The secret behind the success story of our Administration is not far-fetched. As a responsive Administration, we are being guided by the words of that famous theoretical Physicist, Albert Einstein, that “In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity”. No doubt, we have been able to achieve all that we have achieved because our Administration has been proactive by looking inward and re-engineering our State’s finances. Ogun State, as at today, is second only to Lagos State in terms of the ratio of IGR to Federal allocations and fourth in absolute figure of generated revenue. We are able to pay the salaries of our workforce as and when due, and we are still able to undertake development projects of renovating existing infrastructures while at the same time building new ones.
8. More importantly, we have not allowed the economic recession to affect the quality of our various development projects spread across the State, with a bold imprint of Ogun Standard stamped all over them; and, neither has it affected the ability of our Administration to meet its financial obligations.
9. Ogun State Government, under our administration, has set an ambitious vision of growing the GDP of the State from $20 billion to $100 billion within the next 10 years. One of the strategies towards achieving this aim is to attract investments into the State. To make this happen, we need to put infrastructure in place. As an Administration, we appreciate the place of infrastructure in the drive for investment, industrialisation and development. This is why we have embarked on massive infrastructural development. To some of our people, they do not see reasons for these projects, but development does not come into a State without first developing the infrastructure. At the commencement of our massive road construction and redesign across the State, even some of our steadfast supporters never believed we could achieve what we have achieved. Today, these projects have opened up Ogun State as the investment destination of choice in the country. Indeed, Ogun State has emerged the fastest growing State economy and is now the industrial capital of Nigeria by all indices, giving further proof of our actions. We have been able to attract 543 new industries in the five years of our Administration, all of which have invested not less than $50 million. Of these industries, 110 have invested between $200 million and $2 billion.
10. We appreciate the well-founded concern of our people on our desire to commence some new road projects. Unknown to some of our people, the contract for the construction of these roads were actually awarded as far back as 2012.
11. In another but related dimension, we also realised that in order to achieve massive industrialisation, we need to support road transportation with rail transportation. There is need to move heavy machineries, merchandise, and large numbers of people with ease. We have therefore conceived an Inter-city rail network. This will make Ogun highly competitive thus attracting more Industries, Commerce and Real Estate development.
12. The ground-breaking ceremony for the proposed light-rail project will take place in the first quarter of 2017. The design and feasibility studies have already been concluded. The first phase of the proposed Ogun Light Rail Network is approximately 102.3km and consists of two lines:
• Abeokuta (Panseke) – Sagamu Interchange – Sagamu Town (49.8 km)
• Ogere Town – Sagamu Interchange – Berger (52.5km)
13. The first phase of the rail line was selected to take advantage of the existing traffic on the Lagos to Sagamu section of the Lagos – Ibadan Expressway, which is the busiest road in Nigeria with an Annual Average Daily Traffic (AADT) of over 40,000. This phase also connects Abeokuta, the State Capital to the rapidly growing industrial zone of Sagamu and commercial zone of Ogere.
14. In the same vein, let me assure our people that preparations have reached an advanced stage for the construction of our International Airport. This Airport will ease the movement of people, goods and services in and out of Ogun State.
15. As part of our efforts to develop the economy of our State, we are also keying in to the potentials provided by Agriculture and Agri-Business. Agriculture will not only ensure food security, but provide huge employment opportunities for our teeming youth. We are exploring an Agro-Politan development strategy which emphasises the localisation of the entire value chain that Agriculture provides: Grow-Process-Store–Package–Market-Sell. This will ensure that millions of our citizens will be engaged in the Agricultural value chain and will be able to prosper wherever they are.
16. Closely related to this, is our Reforestation Project. We already have two sites at Aworo and Imeko. Apart from the fact that the projects will go a long way in improving the quality of our environment, it will also boost our forestry development plan and promote investment in the Timber industry. Since most of the people who will drive the Agriculture and Forestry sectors are mostly rural dwellers, the year 2017 will witness huge rural road construction. We will take advantage of the opportunities provided by the World Bank through the Rural Access and Mobility Project (RAMP) to ensure easy access to farm produce and mobility of dwellers to modern facilities such as pipe borne water, electricity and qualitative health care delivery.
17. In the area of Health, we have concentrated on Primary Health Care as it is the nearest to the people. Among such of our approaches are the Araya, which is a community based health insurance scheme; and, Gbomoro, which is directed at pregnant women and children between ages 0-5. All these are geared towards ensuring that our people enjoy affordable, sustainable and efficient health care. Our community based Health Insurance Scheme is designed to provide access to health services for those who could not afford, and, have therefore, been excluded from the formal insurance scheme. In fact, our Araya Programme has become a template for National Primary Health Care Scheme. In October 2016, the Federal Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Centre for Disease Control, USA, conducted a performance review of HIV/AIDS management in Nigeria and rated Ogun State as the best in HIV/AIDS Service quality improvement in Nigeria.
18. As an Administration, we remain unwaveringly committed to ensure that all Children of school age have access to qualitative and affordable education irrespective of religious, tribal and gender differences or financial status. Our Commitment will not only be restricted to the Primary and Secondary levels of education. Our Tertiary Institution will also continue to receive adequate attention to drive our industrialization agenda. Our efforts have continued to yield bountiful rewards, while our Students and Teachers are winning local and International awards, our Institutions too, have not been left out. Just recently, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye was adjudged as the Best State University in Nigeria based on its achievements in Infrastructure development and management as well as academic staff among other measures by the Institute for Governance, Research, Leadership and Technology. We have also sent a Bill for the conversion of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic to a University of Technology, and another Bill for the replacement of the existing Polytechnic to be sited at Ipokia, to the Ogun State House of Assembly.
19. My dear good people of Ogun State, let me again re-assure you that the commencement of new Projects will not in any way affect the completion of on-going Projects spread across the three Senatorial districts. By the grace of God, I assure you that we will not leave any Project uncompleted. Even as we remain committed to the fulfilment of all our electoral promises aimed at achieving socio-economic transformation of Ogun State and making lives better for our people, it is also important to remind you, as we have said before, that there will be challenges along the way. It is, therefore, important that all of us should continue to work together as stakeholders and play our parts. This is the only way for us to take our dear State to the desired heights.
20. In the area of Housing and Urban Renewal, we will continue with the development of: the New Makun City, MITROS City in Isheri, New Government City in Kobape, New Cities in Ota and Agbara, New GRA in Ijebu-Ode, and President Muhammadu Buhari Housing Estate, among others. Construction will commence in earnest at the Judicial Complex, Kobape, Abeokuta.
21. In addition, as part of efforts to upgrade the capacity and reach of our broadcasting outfit, Ogun State Television (OGTV), we have concluded plans for its migration from analogue to Digital transmission in the New Year.
22. As part of our efforts towards providing a conducive environment for Public Private Partnership (PPP), we also played host to a number of National Events; some of which are the first ever National Drum Festival to make an in-road into the potentials of Culture and Tourism as a viable source of income; the 3rd Ogun State Investors Forum, tagged Emerging Economic Powerhouse with three thematic areas of focus: Environment, Agriculture and Transportation, to further position our dear State as the best investment destination. We also hosted other National events such as; the Joint Tax Board; the National Council on Finance and Economic Development (NACOFED); the National Council on Industry, Trade and Investment; and the House of Representatives Parliamentary retreat for the Committee on Constitutional Review.
23. However, it is important that as we record successes at the macro-economic level, we do not forget to reward our people who have contributed to these successes. As a people-friendly Government, our Administration on Wednesday, 28th December, 2016, started the disbursement of the sum of N13.1billion for the payment of backlog of gratuities from November 2012, to February 2014; Cooperative deductions as well as Severance Allowance to Political Office Holders who served between 2007 and 2015. This was in fulfilment of the promise of our Administration to pay these monies whenever we receive any bullet-fund from Abuja. Although, the Federal Government recommended that 50% of the total package of the Paris Club loan refund be used for payment of Workers’ salaries and emoluments, our Administration has decided to expend not only the 50%, we used the entire 100% of the N10.6billion given to Ogun State, and added an extra N2.5billion, thus bringing the total payment to N13.1billion. We did this because of the importance we attach to the welfare of our workforce. You will all recall that we entered into an initial agreement with the Labour Unions for the payment of a month of arrears of the Cooperative deductions after every three months, while a sum of N200m is to be released every other month to settle gratuities. The recent payment, no doubt, far outweighs the signed agreement. We did all this, because we believe that no one who has served Ogun State should be denied his or her entitlements irrespective of political, religious, ethnic or gender differences. We also believe that when workers are paid their entitlements, we will get the best out of them, and it will percolate down, even to the market women and create a positive ripple effect on the State’s economy. We have therefore released a total of N13.1b to reflate our State economy. The positive implication and impact of these is that everybody in Ogun State will feel this good gesture.
24. At this point, I urge all Nigerians, irrespective of their ethnic leanings or political affiliations, to join hands with President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, in the fight against corruption. We have learnt, though in the hard way, the negative effect of corruption on the economy of our country. Let us, therefore, support the Federal Government to defeat the cankerworm of corruption. It is in doing this that our march to greatness and development, as a nation, is guaranteed on the path of peace, progress and prosperity.
25. Let me state that we are continually encouraged by the co-operation of our people and are ever re-energized to do what you have mandated us to do. We will continue to remain accountable to the good people of Ogun State who are the essence of our Administration. To our Public and Civil Servants who have demonstrated a high level of professionalism, resourcefulness and creativity, we say well done. To our traditional and religious leaders who have continued to support and pray for us, we say thank you; to all NGOs, and Civil Society Groups who have constructively engaged us, we ask for more constructive engagements and criticism; to the Security Agencies who ensure that our people go about their daily businesses without fear of harassment and that we all sleep well at night, please keep up the good work; to the press who provide us the feedback and reports on the implications of some of our actions, we say more of incisive reporting; and equally important, to all opposition groups, who continue to keep us on our toes, we say let your criticism be objective and for altruistic reasons. To the Organized Private Sector and all corporate bodies who have found in us a worthy partner by investing in our dear State, we appreciate you and we promise to continue to create a more conducive atmosphere for business to thrive. To the other arms of Government – the Legislature and the Judiciary, we thank you for your cooperation.
26. For the umpteenth time, we appreciate the good people of Ogun State who have continued to show love and support for our Administration. Please continue to show support, cooperation and most importantly your prayers that the good Lord gives us the necessary wherewithal to succeed in our Mission To Rebuild Ogun State. Finally, all praises and adoration to the Almighty God who makes all things possible. While thanking God for His abundant mercies for witnessing the New Year, I charge all of us to seek only those things that allow for the peace and prosperity of Ogun State in 2017 and beyond. By His grace, we are determined to leave Ogun State better than we met it. We pray to finish Strong, on a High and ultimately finish Well. This is our commitment.
27. Once again, on behalf of the Government of Ogun State, I wish all of us a happy, prosperous and fulfilling New Year.
28. I thank you all for listening and God bless.

Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, on Wednesday, presented severance allowance cheques to political office holders who served during the administration of former Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, between 2007 and 2011 as well as those who served during his first term of office between 2011 and 2015.

While addressing the beneficiaries at the Arcade ground, Governor's office, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, the Governor said, "it does not matter which political party or administration you have served, what matters is that you have served the state diligently."

Governor Amosun disclosed that in order to accomodate all former political appointees, including those who served at the local government level, his administration added a total of N2.4billion to the N10.6billion it received from Federal Government as its share of the Paris Club loan refund.

The Ogun State government has so far used the fund to pay arrears of gratuities from November 2012 to February 2014; six months of cooperative deductions as well as severance allowance of political office holders who served between 2007 and 2015.

In all, Ogun State government has paid N13 billion as opposed to the N10.6billion it received from the federal government.

The Governor explained that the payment of the N13 billion would directly benefit the economy and positively affect market women, traders as well as taxi drivers in the state.

The Governor also hinted that 2017 will witness more infrastructural development in the state, including the proposed light rail project.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, the former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Aare Tunde Alabi, appreciated Governor Amosun for the payment as well as infrastructural developments that he said, "have dotted the nooks and crannies of Ogun State."

Magboro: Another Promise Kept

For the people of Magboro and it's environs, 2016 Christmas holiday is one not to be forgotten in a hurry.

And the reason for this is not far-fetched. On Sunday, December 25, the community which has not been on the national power grid for many years had power switched on.

With this development, some persons who have lived in Magboro community for close to 10 years without electricity were able to switch on power for the first time.

Now, this is another promise kept by Governor Ibikunle Amosun.

Although power supply to the Magboro community and indeed the whole of Ogun State falls under the purview of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, IBEDC, a private company, the state government has continued to interface with this company with a view to ensuring that it keeps its promise of switching on electricity in Magboro by December 25, 2016.

This is a further confirmation of the commitment of the Senator Ibikunle Amosun-led administration's commitment to the welfare of the good people of Ogun State.

It is equally an unmistakable statement on the progress of the Amosun-led administration's Mission to Rebuild Ogun State.

Beyond electricity, the Ogun State government has also concluded plans to complete the Magboro road construction project in the course of the 2017 fiscal year.
This is already captured in the 2017 budget.

The exercise will also affect political appointees who served during the first term of office of Governor Amosun between 2011 and 2015.

To achieve this, the state government earmarked the sum of N1bn to clear the balance of severance allowance of political appointees who served between 2007 and 2011 as well as those who served between 2011 and 2015.

The former political office holders are however not the only ones smiling to the banks during this Yuletide season.

The state government has also disbursed the sum of N6bn for the payment of gratuities to pensioners covering the periods between November 2012 and January 2014.

This payment, which is already ongoing, will benefit not less than 2,429 retirees.

It should be recalled that the Governor Amosun-led administration on assumption of office in 2011 started clearing inherited backlog of gratuities from 2007 and has now paid up till January 2014.

Also not left out are the workers. The Governor Amosun-led administration has also disbursed the sum of N5.5bn for the payment of 6 months arrears of outstanding cooperative deductions to all categories of the workforce at both state and local government levels in Ogun.

This is in addition to the early payment of December salaries and bonus as it is the usual practice of the Governor Amosun-led administration in Ogun State.

In all, the Ogun State government has disbursed N12.5bn for the payment of gratuities, cooperative deductions arrears and severance allowance of former political office holders in the state.

This was made possible largely due to the prudent management of scarce resources by Governor Amosun, as well as the receipt of N10.6bn by the Ogun State government from the Paris Club refund, which the federal government recently shared to different states of the Federation.

It is particularly worthy of note that whereas the federal government advised state governments to use only 50 per cent of the fund for payment of workers’ emolument, the Ogun State governor has decided to spend it all on the workforce because of the love the governor has for the workers.

So, Ogun State has not only expended the entire fund it received on the welfare of its workforce, both serving and retired, but it has also added N1.9bn all in a bid to put a smile on the faces of the people in this Yuletide season.

Signed
