Amosun Vows to Complete Sango-Ojodu Road

Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has assured of his administration’s commitment to complete the ongoing construction of Sango-Ojodu road.

The governor stated this, on Saturday, when he visited some parts of the 32km road construction project, which comes along with five bridges, during the monthly environmental sanitation exercise.

Speaking during the project inspection tour, Governor Amosun promised residents and commuters whose daily activities are affected by the current state of the road that, "the hardship of this raining season would be the last that you would experience on this road before the completion of the project.”

While explaining that the road construction would have been completed but for paucity of fund, the governor described it as a huge project adding that this was why all previous administrations in Ogun State avoided it.

“But we are determined to tackle it headlong and put an end to the hardship always experienced on the road by our people,” Governor Amosun said.

The Governor, while appreciating residents of Ijoko, Yakoyo, Alagbole, Akute and other communities on the path of the project, for their patience and support, assured that by March next year, "the 5 overhead bridges on the road would have been completed."

Eid-el-Kabir: Amosun Urges Nigerians to Work and Pray

Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has urged the Muslim Ummah and indeed all Nigerians to work in unity and pray for the progress and prosperity of Nigeria.

The governor, who stated this as part of his goodwill message for the Eid-el-Kabir festival, also called on all Nigerians, irrespective of their religious, ethnic or political leaning to join hands in support of the efforts of the federal government towards revitalizing the Nigerian economy.

“If we all come together irrespective of our religious, ethnic and political differences to contribute our own quota to the development of this country, I have no doubt in my mind that Nigeria will speedily overcome its current economic challenges,” Amosun said.

The Ogun State governor further explained that at the very core of the Eid-El-Kabir celebration is a lesson in total obedience and selfless service as exemplified by the decision of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah.

Drawing from that example, the governor said, “if Nigerians would all imbibe values such as respect for the rule of law, selfless service and eschew all forms of corruption, then the country can quickly overcome its current challenges and come out stronger and better.”

Gateway Savings and Loans Secures N160m Housing Fund

Gateway Savings and Loans Limited, a state Mortgage bank, has recently secured the disbursement of N160m National Housing Fund Loan (NHF).

A statement issued by the state mortgage bank, at the weekend, stated that the fund was processed on behalf of Ogun State Civil Servants who bought into the Laderin Housing Estate and some private individuals who applied for the loan for their housing needs.

“We are proud to have the recognition and support of Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) at this point in time as this will enable us to significantly expand our sales and marketing efforts on NHF loans as well as on other mortgage products,” said Mr. Olawale Osisanya, Managing Director, Gateway Savings and Loans Limited.

Osisanya explained that this feat was made possible because Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, approved the injection of N2.5bn into the bank in December 2014.
“The injection of this fund made it possible for the bank to obtain its current license of a State mortgage bank,” Osisanya said.

He added that, “This is a phenomenon that has significantly expanded the bank’s sales and marketing efforts, as well as accelerated our product roadmap… In the medium term our expansion plan will cover opening of additional branches in Mowe/Ibafo, Ijebu-Ode, Sagamu and Ago Iwoye while the long term plan of the bank will be to upgrade its status into a national mortgage bank.”

In addition, Osisanya said the bank was already working in collaboration with the Ogun State Property & Investment Corporation (OPIC) to develop houses that will cater for low-income earners in the state targeting a maximum price of N5 million.

He said a similar arrangement was also ongoing between the bank and the Ogun State Housing Corporation (OGSHC) to provide houses for interested middle level staff of corporate organizations.

Amosun Refutes Claim of N1bn for LG Election

Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has refuted claims that the state government plans to spend close to N1bn for the conduct of the upcoming local government election.

While reacting to some media reports which quoted the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission, OGSIEC, as having said that it will spend close to N1bn on the October 8, 2016 local government election, the governor said, “there is no iota of truth in that.”

Governor Amosun said, “The N927million that is being bandied around is the annual budgetary request of OGSIEC and not money that they have been allocated by the state government.”

He added that, “this budgetary request was not even about the local government election but rather meant to cover all sorts of expenses of OGSIEC, including their request to construct a new office, buy official cars, buy new ballot boxes and a host of other capital projects.”

The Ogun State governor said, “These are capital projects that they have indicated interest in accomplishing this year. However, we have not given them money for any of those things because the state government cannot afford such cost for now.

“In fact, for instance, rather than build a new office as they have projected in that estimate, we have provided them a befitting office. So in all, I don’t think they have received more than N50m so far.”

Free Trade Zone: Ogun Refutes Allegations of Arbitrariness

The Ogun State government has refuted claims that it unilaterally terminated the contract of Zhongfu International Investments (Nig.) FZE (“ZIIN”), an investor in the Ogun Guangdong Free Trade Zone.

Reacting to such claims at the weekend, Secretary to the Ogun State Government, Barrister Taiwo Adeoluwa, said, “there is no truth whatsoever to the allegations raised by Dr. Jason Han, Managing Director of Zhongfu International Investments (Nig.) FZE, in an open letter to President Muhammadu Buhari that is being circulated on some online news media.”

He explained that far from the allegations being peddled in the media, what happened is that “the Chinese government, through a Diplomatic Note 1601, dated March 11, 2016, notified the Ogun State government that the Guangdong New South Group (rather than Zhongfu International Investments) are the ones authorized to manage the Ogun Guangdong Free Trade Zone.”

He added that through the Diplomatic Note, “the Chinese Consulate stressed further that to continue to allow Zhongfu International Investments to manage the zone would amount to encouraging and abetting a private company to perpetuate fraud on the government of Guangdong Province, China (the original joint venture partners to Ogun State on the project) and its lawful successors in title, the Guangdong New South Group.”

Concerned about the weighty nature of issues raised in the Diplomatic Note, Adeoluwa said the Ogun State government called for explanations from both the New South Group and Zhongfu International Investments.

“The New South Group provided evidence, corroborated by the Chinese Consulate, that they bought 51 per cent of the equity of China Africa Investment Limited, the official representative of the Guangdong Province of China on the Zone and with whom the Ogun State government originally signed a Memorandum of Understanding.

“By virtue of the lawful equity transfer, they succeeded to ownership and management rights of China Africa in the zone. They further contended that the new agreement signed by Zhongfu International Investments with the Ogun State government in 2013, was procured by fraud and criminal misrepresentation for reasons that Zhongfu International Investments Limited, who was merely a tenant on the zone, deliberately concocted lies to mislead the Ogun State government into believing that it was the lawful successor to the equity ownership of China Africa Investment Limited,” Adeoluwa said.

Curiously, it must be noted that apart from its inability to provide any concrete evidence to back its own claims, Zhongfu International Investments has so far demonstrated a rather strange unwillingness to approach either the Chinese Embassy or Consulate in Nigeria or better still, visit the Guangdong Province, China, to immediately resolve the dispute.

“One would have thought that the Embassy or Consulate, whose basic duty it is to protect the interest of Chinese nationals in Nigeria, is the quick, best and cheap forum to resolve this Chinese on Chinese dispute. But rather than do that, Zhongfu International has chosen the path of peddling lies and cheap blackmail,” Adeoluwa said.

The Ogun SSG added that “contrary to allegations of arbitrariness, abuse of power and unfriendliness to foreign investors, leveled by Dr. Jason Han, Ogun State government is indeed investor friendly and happy to work with genuine investors, either from within Nigeria or from any part of the world.”

This, he said, was evident in the number of industries, both local and international, that have since birthed in Ogun State within the last five years. “That is why, today, Ogun State is the industrial hub of Nigeria, attracting the highest number of industries in the country,” Adeoluwa said.

Amosun Appoints Non-Indigenes as Permanent Secretaries.

Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, on Thursday, made history by appointing Mr. Ndimele Emmanuel Ofor, a native of Abia State and Mr. Ipinniwa Steve Olusegun, a native of Kogi State as Permanent Secretaries in the Ogun State Civil Service.

"I congratulate all of you who are being elevated as Permanent Secretaries today. I particularly want to congratulate Mr Ofor. Some people said he is a non-indigene. But I don't see it that way.

"I believe that if someone has been serving in a place for 20, 30 years he can no longer be called a non-indigene. He has been with us and he has worked with us. He is now part of us. He cannot be called a non-indigene, and in any event, it will be unfair and unjust to deprive someone who worked for you his deserved elevation on account of where he comes from."

The governor added that, "As for me, hard work rather than where you come from should be the basis for promotion.

"As a nation, we need to move away from base things like ethnicity and emphasize more on hard work."

Mr Ofor and Mr. Ipinniwa were among the 14 new Permanent Secretaries sworn in by the governor at the State Executive Council Chambers, on Thursday.

Others include Mrs. Odumusi Bettey Olubunmi, Mrs. Ajayi Funmi Mofoluke, Mr. Adewunmi Olayiwola Matthew, Mrs. Dosunmu Titilayo Olubodunrin, Engr. Onajobi Jonathan Olukunle and Engr. Adelana Ademola Oluwole.

The list also includes Mr. Olatoye Julius Olufemi, Engr. Bakare Adeoye Tunde, Mrs. Gbadamosi Muibat Abiola, Mr. Rasheed Sefiu Aremu, Mr. Osolase Afeez and Mr. Agbaje Babatunde Aina.

The governor who charged the new Permanent Secretaries to be alert to their responsibilities, tasked them to individually seek to contribute to the ongoing rebuilding effort of his administration in the state.

He said that during his extensive campaign tour of the entire 18 local government areas of the state before and after the APC primaries, he saw an Edo State whose strategic location in the Nigerian federation is not only to unite the country, according to him, but also to support the strategic intent of Nigeria to be “a self-sustaining independent country”.

“By this clear evidence”, Obaseki remarked, “Edo State becomes the root through which this objective could be attained”.

The guber hopeful who called for the total support of the electorate in the coming election, assured that the viability of Edo State as an economic hub is no longer in doubt . “During my tour of the State, I saw from the beautiful mountain view of Ososo in Akoko – Edo through the busy Ilushin Waterside in Esan South East, down to the evergreen vegetation swaths of Ovia and Orhiomoron; I saw an Edo State that is so blessed by nature awaiting to be tapped further for a sustained economic growth and development”, he reiterated.

Amosun Urges Police to Tackle Kidnapping

Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has urged the Police in Ogun State to do everything within its powers to nip incidences of kidnapping in the bud.
“One must commend the officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force for keeping Ogun State and indeed, Nigeria safe. But there is an area that still requires attention and that is this issue of kidnapping which is now rearing its head,” Governor Amosun said.
The governor made this remark, on Monday, when the management team of the Ogun State Police Command led by the new Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, paid him a courtesy visit at his Oke Mosan, Abeokuta office.
While addressing the visiting police team, the governor expressed pleasure at receiving the new Commissioner of Police and urged him to work hard just like his predecessor AIG Abdulmajid Ali, who is now in charge of Zone 2.
“If people are saying that we have done well and that our state is secured, it is because of the kind of security that we have enjoyed in Ogun State. I like the synergy and cooperation that exists among the security agencies in the state,” Governor Amosun said.
He added that, “The police is good but they need the right tools to work. Once you give them the necessary support, you will be amazed at how efficient they are,” the governor said.
On his part, CP Iliyasu commended the Ogun State governor for the level of infrastructural and social development that Ogun State has recorded during his tenure so far.
He also pledged that the police under his command in the state will key into the vision and drive of the governor for development and make the state safe for all including foreign investors.
“I like to assure you that we have a zero tolerance for crime and criminality and even since I resumed here, we have dealt decisively with issues such as armed robbery, kidnapping, land grabbing, cultism and a host of others,” CP Iliyasu said.
The new CP also commended Governor Amosun for the support he has always given the police in the state and urged him to continue to do so.
“I want to assure you that we are willing to work and make the state safe and secured,” the CP said.

Ogun Model Schools Open in September -Amosun

Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has assured that newly built Ogun State Model Schools, in different parts of the state, will be open for students in September 2016.

The governor gave the assurance, on Sunday, during the closing ceremonies of the Ogun State Summer Camp held at the Model School, Akinale area of Ewekoro.

"I know the forms are out right now. I want to encourage our parents to purchase the form and enrol their children in the Model Schools," governor Amosun said.

While assuring that the Model Schools will be free for exceptionally brilliant students, irrespective of their background, the governor also said the state government will subsidise the fee for those who have to pay.

"Considering the facilities available in those schools, I'm sure you will agree with me that it cannot be totally free. But the fee will be subsidised by the state government," the governor said.

He also assured that a common standard of quality teaching and learning shall be maintained in all Model Schools in the state irrespective of their location.

In the course of the event, parents whose children participated in the just concluded Summer Camp, took turns to express their appreciation for the quality of learning and teaching that their wards received during the two-week camp period.

One of the parents that spoke at the event, Bode Ojajuni, thanked the state government for the excellent learning environment the students enjoyed in the Model school.

"I brought my chubby boy to the camp thinking that in two weeks, he would have lost weight. But to my surprise, he has even added weight. The boy was over fed," Mr. Ojajuni said.

Other parents who spoke at the event, especially those with special children, also commended the state government for the efficient medical team that was available in the camp day and night.
