2. ABEOKUTA SOUTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT
CHAIRMAN:- YANJU LIPEDE
This Local Government area is usually referred to as the Premier Local Government, owing to the historic eminence, as the traditional seat of the Local or native authority in Egba, since 1898 as well as the seat of the government of Ogun state that came to existence in 1976. The Local Government has 15 wards these are, Ake 1, Ake 2, Ake 3, Adatan/Lantoro, Emere, Ijemo, Itoko, Ijaiye/Idi-Aba, Erungbe/Ijoko/Ilogbo, Oke-Ejigbo, Oke-Ijeun, Ago Ijesha/Ijeun-Titun/Ago-Egun, Sodeke/Isale Ijeun 1, Igbore/Itori/Ago-Oba and Ibara.
Ake (Abeokuta) is the headquarters of this Local Government Area.
PEOPLE
Abeokuta South Local Government is mainly inhibited by the Egba Ake stock made up of Egba Eku, Egba Aarin and Egba Agbeyin.
OCCUPATION
The occupations of the indigenes of this area are pottery, tie and dye, amongst others.
RELIGION
Christianity, Islam and Traditional religion are the three religions of the people of the Local Government
EDUCATION
There are 45 primary Schools, 20 public secondary Schools, 7 private secondary schools and 1 Technical College.
TRADITIONAL RULERS
The Local Government has 2 main royal fathers, the Alake of Egbaland Oba (Dr.) Oyebade Lipede 1, and the Olubara of Ibara (Oba Jacob Olufemi Omolade)
