The Ogun State Government is to construct new stalls for traders selling under Sapon and Itoku overhead bridges in Abeokuta so as to give room for final beautification of the places.
Governor Ibikunle Amosun made this known while addressing traders at a special inspection tour to relocate those selling under Sapon and Itoku bridges to a new location.
He assured all the traders especially those whose shops were initially affected during the road expansion at the two places of getting allocation in the ultra-modern market.
He emphasized that allocation of stalls would be done accordingly without any special consideration, explaining that Government has photographs and records of all traders whose shops were demolished, saying that they would first be considered when the ultra-modern market would be allocated to avert misallocation.
The Governor added that pending the time the modern market would be ready, people selling under the bridge have to be relocated to a new place with open stalls.
He said the exercise was not only to ensure clean environment, but also to prepare the State for its 40th anniversary, saying that the State Government would do everything possible to improve the standard of living of the people of the State.
Iyaloja of Sapon market, Mrs. Monsurat Sodunke said the relocation was in order, noting that all traders were very much aware of the danger attached to selling under the bridge and were expectant to have proper place of displaying their wares.
She however commended the ingenuity of Governor Amosun at rebuilding the State, promising to always support the Government in its efforts at making the State a destination of choice
