4. EWEKORO LOCAL GOVERNMENT

CHAIRMAN:-ISKILU MAKINDE

This Local Government area came into existence in May 22, 1981. It has a land area of about 31.5 square kilometers and is bounded by Yewa South in the west,
Ifo Local Government in the South, Abeokuta North and Obafemi Owode in the
north and east respectively.

Itori is the headquarters of this Local Government Area.
The Local Government is divided into 10 wards, namely Itori, Owowo, Mosan, Abalabi,
Wasimi, Papalanto, Arigbajo, Obada, Asa Yobo and Elere Owus.

PEOPLE
The indigenous dwellers of this Local Government area are mainly the Egbas, particularly the Egba Owus.

OCCUPATION
Farming is the primary occupation of the indigenes of this area, trading activities is also common among the people, since it is basically a rural settlement.

POPULATION
Going by the 1991 population census, 147,000 is the population of this Local Government area.

RELIGION
Christianity, Islam and Traditional religion are the three religions of the people of the Local Government

EDUCATION
There are 53 primary Schools in this Local Government Area.
