MINISTRY OF FINANCE

BRIEF HISTORY
 
 (a) Background Information:
 The Ministry of Finance as a full-fledged Ministerial Agency of the State has been established since the creation of Ogun State in February 1976 out of the then Western State of Nigeria. Ever since, the following individuals have at respective periods held the post of the Commissioner in the Ministry.

STRUCTURE

The Ministry is headed by the Honourable Commissioner who is also a member of the State Executive Council. The Honourable Commissioner is supported by the Permanent Secretary who is the Chief Accounting Officer of the Ministry. The Ministry however supervises the office of the Accountant General and the State Board of Internal Revenue. In the main, the Ministry presently operates through three (3) Departments namely
(i) Department of Finance and Administration
(ii) Central Department of Statistics
(iii) Central Revenue Monitoring Directorate

FUNCTIONS
 
 The Ministry presently performs the following functions:
 a. Financial Policy and Regulations
 b. Public Finance
 (i) Public Debt Management;
 (ii) Internal and External Borrowings;
 (iii) External Financial Assistance
 (iv) Loans Policy;
 (v) Financial Management Committee;
 - Funds Allocation Committee
 - Funds Management Committee
 - Financial Review Committee
 - Loans Committee
 (vi) Monitoring of all Revenue Sources
 c. Relating with Relevant Financial Institutions
 d. Provision of advice and counsel to all Revenue Generating Agencies and helping them to understand,      interpret and apply established policies and procedures.
 e. Proposing to Government the revenue objectives reached through research including the analysis of      income/revenue survey
 f. Designing the plans and programmes needed to achieve the designed objectives by all revenue      collecting agencies
 g. Insurance of Government Properties
 h. Production of Statistical data on the activities of the State Government
 i. Advisory Committee.
