7. IJEBU-EAST LOCAL GOVERNMENT

CHAIRMAN:- CHIEF OLADUNJOYE

This Local Government Area derived its name from the fact that it lies to the east of Ijebu-Ode, the center-point of Ijebu-Land. It has its headquarters at Ogere, a distance of about 22km from Ijebu-ode; it is bounded in the north by Ijebu north Local Government, in the east by Odigbo Local Government of Ondo state, in the North West and west by Ijebu-Ode and Odogbolu Local Governments.

Ijebu-east Local Government serves as an important link and focal point between Ogun and other eastern states of Nigeria, particular from Ondo to Edo states.

POPULATION
The projected population of this Local Government Area is about 76,182 according to 1991 census.

OCCUPATION
The economic mainstay of the people includes farming, hunting, fishing, craftwork and sculpturing.

RELIGION
There is freedom of worship for every one, however Christians and Muslims are found in the area, while some take to traditional religion.

EDUCATION
The Local Government has 53 public primary schools & 10 secondary schools.
