EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT IN OGUN STATE SINCE INCEPTION OF THE OTUNBA GBENGA DANIEL ADMINISTRATION
One of the fundamental paths to empowerment of the human race is through Education. This is because before any person can be empowered, such an individual must be equipped with the necessary tools required to operate and become effective in a larger society. This requirement is fulfilled by the foundation provided by education – which is the process or system that facilitates the acquisition of skills, knowledge, information and know-how through formal or informal means. Competence in any field of human endeavour comes through education and learning and the multiplier effect of this to the society is that it helps to prepare both youths and adults to be successful citizens contributing their own quota to the society. When people are educated, they are equipped with the enabling knowledge and requisite skills needed for active participation in a productive economy.
Today, Ogun State is distinguished as the most educationally advanced State in Nigeria with an intimidating credential to show for this. There are twenty-four tertiary institutions with campuses located within Ogun State out of which eleven is proudly owned and maintained effectively by the State Government. The eleven tertiary institutions owned by the State Government include the following:
- Olabisi Onabanjo University, a multi-campus institution with colleges in Ago-Iwoye, Aiyetoro, Ibogun and Ikenne;
