16. OGUN WATERSIDE LOCAL GOVERNMENT

This Local Government Area was one of the Local Government created on May 15,1989. It covers an area of about 860.32 sq. km, and is bounded in the west by Ijebu East Local Government, in the north and the east by Ondo state and in the south by Lagos State and the Atlantic Ocean.

This Local Government Area has its headquarters at Abigi and has 10 wards, namely Iwopin, Oni/Alo, Ibiade, Lukogbe/Ilusin, Abigi, Efire, Ayede/Lomiro, Ayila/Itebu, Makun/Irokun, and Ode-Omi.

PEOPLE
These people are peace-loving Yorubas, and the predominant language is Yoruba language with Ijebu, Ikale and Ilaje dialect.

POPULATION
The projected population of this Local Government Area is about 112,802 (1990).

OCCUPATION
The major occupation of the people in this is farming, fishing and lumbering.

RELIGION
There is freedom of worship for every one, however Christians and Muslims are found in the area, while some take to traditional religion.

EDUCATION
The Local Government has 60 public primary schools & 12 secondary schools. There are also an appreciative number of private investments in the education industry, with 3 private nursery/primary school, and 2 private secondary schools.

TRADITIONAL RULERS
This Local Government Area can boast of a strong traditional heritage and a sound cultural background at the head of which are enlightened royal fathers. There are 4 part two Obas, 5 part three Obas and 7 Baales in this Local Government Area.
