19. YEWA NORTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT

CHAIRMAN:-EVANG TITUS SOJI EWEJE

This Local Government Area was formerly Egbado North Local Government. It has its headquarters at Ayetoro, and came into existence via Local Government edict no.9 of 1976.

This area has a land size of about 200,213.5 hectares, shares boundaries with Imeko/Afon Local Government in the north, in the south by Yewa South Local Government, in the west by the Republic of Benin and in the east by Abeokuta North and Ewekoro Local Government

There are 11 wards in this Local Government Area, namely Ayetoro ward I, Ayetoro ward II, Idofoi, Sunwa, Ijoun, Eggua, Ohunbe, Igbogila/Ibese, Joga-Orile/Ibooro and Imasai.

PEOPLE
The inhabitants are mainly Yoruba, speaking various dialects like Yewa, Ketu, etc.

POPULATION
The projected population of this Local Government Area is about 140,848 (1991 census).

OCCUPATION
The people are predominantly farmers,

RELIGION
There is freedom of worship for every one, however Christians and Muslims are found in the area, while some take to traditional religion.

EDUCATION
The Local Government has 97 public primary schools & 19 secondary schools and I Technical College. There are also an appreciative number of private investments in the education industry in this area .
