Ogun State Government says it is committed to building the mental capacity of its Town Planning Officers as critical stakeholders to achieving proper Town Planning and ensuring sanity in the built sector of the State.

Commissioner for physical planning and Urban Development,TPL Tunji Odunlami stated this at a two-day retreat for Zonal Planning Officers in the State,held at the Oba’s complex hall Oke-Mosan Abeokuta, saying the theme “Strategy Planning and vision sharing” cannot be apt at a better time than now that the state government is genuinely committed to enforce international best practices in the sector.

TPL. Odunlami who said the retreat was first of its kind since the restructuring of the Ogun State Urban and regional planning board into three new agencies which are the Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority, the Ogun State slum regeneration Authority and the Ogun State Building Production Management Authority.

He further stated that the retreat is a good opportunity for the officers to take stock of development in the building sector and plan ahead to achieve set objectives.

“it is an opportunity to bring our officers together to cross fertilize ideas for effective performance and time to reflect so as to understand past performance and improve on them” He said.

Speaking earlier, the Acting General Manger, Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority, Tpl Kolawole Ogun appreciated the Honorable Commissioner for approving the two-day retreat, advising town planning Officers to always take actions in accordance with the physical planning law.

VISION SHARING, TARGET ANALYSIS AND STRATEGIC ACTION PLANNING/ FUTURE PLANS, TPL Adedayo Olowolagba noted that the vision of OGPDPA to simplify Planning Permit processes for an investment friendly and orderly developed Ogun State, challenging the officers to key into the mandate.

Tpl Olowolagba, also highlighted the Target Analysis and the Strategic Action Plans needed to achieve the goal, affirming that Planning Permit process has been reduced to maximum of seven days for Simple Applications and fourteen days for Major Application tagged 7-7-14.

He challenged Town planners on rigorous monitoring, checks and balances, consultations with Stakeholders, adding that if the Action Plan was well implemented, the Vision would be adequately and fully realized.
